I just had to throw in my 5 star rating for this printer. It's so nice to finally have a printer that I can trust - if an error message pops up or something doesn't print as I was expecting, almost 100% of the time it is something that I messed up. I've used this printer for about a year at my job, printing high volume text, pictures, on cardstock; anything that pops up, this printer handles well.It was easy to set up and network, the ink is simple to change, and the functions are easy to figure out. Great product.
You are held hostage until you can get to one of the big box stores and hope they have the less than typical cartridges. This machine is designed to prompt you the owner to buy more ink. One other time, an ink cartridge that was half full was ruled out by the printer because the printer was unable to determine the level of ink in it. It takes two black ink cartridges and three color ones. If one of the color ones runs out of ink, the machine refuses to print anything including black and white. For this reason, the machine went on strike yet again. As a teacher who often needs to print out last minute information, this sudden sitdown strike tendency is really inconvenient and makes the printer less than reliable for those who need things like this to work and work without demanding that the pink ink be refilled or all work is stopped
LCD screen failed after a year & a half. Canon only will advise a repair vendor at my expense.I'll use it as long as I can and never buy another canon product.
F them. Maybe even as a backup. Unfortunately, Canon is one of the only companies that doesn't support the linux/open-source movement. Then, my hand-me-down computer busted down, and I built one from scratch and gave Microsoft the boot up it's ace and out the door it deserved. I bought this as part of an ongoing effort to build a small business. Recommend Brother (or whoever) to people who've never even heard of Linux. instead of Win-blows, you might find yourself wanting to in the coming year or two. Even if you don't use Linux Ubuntu 9.10 (it's FREE with thousands of better programs).
I will never buy any of their media devices again until EVERYTHING is supported (including old products). I've never been able to get the printer to work quite right (after hours and hours of trying) and the scanner doesn't work to this day. Unfortunately, it was one of the first purchases I made after thorough comparative research. I'm extremely disappointed in Canon. Buy a Brother printer. It also pigs through expensive ink cartridges like crazy. SPREAD THE WORD. Defeat the baby-eating tyrants.
Half the time I feel like throwing it out the windows. You can only buy this cartrige online.4.
Sometimes it takes a good 5-7 minutes before it will begin to print.2. I have had this printer for 1 year now and I absolutely hate it.I have 4 major issues.1.
It uses a gray ink cartrige, that no one carries. It uses a ton of ink, even use a ton of color ink, while I am just printing black and white.
(the ink is very expensive)3. If it runs out of a colored ink (red, blue, yellow) it will not print even black and white.I can not recomend this printer to anyone.
Do not buy it, you'll probably be very disappointed like me.
